Good Advice

As a fellow and participant in the Image + Text track of the Independent Publishing Resource Center's Certificate Program, I was able to learn the uncharted territory of screen printing. Utilizing the facilities of the community space at the IPRC, I wanted to practice this new medium by illustrating and printing a series of 12.5 x 12.5 inch, two color posters. The content is very much inspired by things I have been told or tell myself repeatedly throughout the course of my life so far. As screen printing can be quite repetitive, I felt this was an appropriate medium to reflect these reoccurring statements, as a did a run of 20 each. Upon graduating from the course, there was two-week a group exhibit featuring this series along with the five other graduates from the track at Trust Collective in Downtown Portland, OR. This particular series is currently being showcased at Mississippi Chiropractic where there are prints available for purchase.

‘You get what you get and you don’t get upset
— Gamma

Something my grandmother (Gamma) used to say. It sounded sweeter in her southern accent. I don't think I truly appreciated the sentiment until adulthood, where her legacy now lives on in print.
